Our presentation explores our findings regarding both student preference of learning modalities as well as their perception of the efficacy of those modalities. We administered surveys to students who were enrolled in SFSU’s College of Business business communications course. Despite the initial struggle to adapt to online learning, our preliminary findings show that students perceive online learning more positively than they did before the pandemic. The implications are that the university should continue to offer a mixture of modes, as well as more online degrees, for students.

In this panel, we will share ways we help students connect to the land, exploring the mental and physical health benefits of gardening, what happens when we get our hands in the soil, and how healing the land can help us heal our minds and bodies. We will describe hands-on activities we have designed, mindfulness exercises we employ, and opportunities we create for students to tell stories about their relationships to nature and the food traditions they cherish.

Any OER writing text is free and immediately and permanently available to students. The fact that the teacher can edit the text means that we can change it to represent our student communities.  It also means that we can assign social annotation of the material and then make changes in response to our students’ comments. Here we will showcase how we have shaped How Arguments Work: A Guide to Writing and Analyzing Texts in College around equity.

We now teach in a time of constant transition – from being bounced online in March 2020 to adapting our pedagogies remotely for an entire year, then some back and forth from online to the classroom this year. In this context, we must develop Hyflex pedagogies alongside offering “Hyflex” options in the classroom. This workshop will engage participants in one active learning lesson where students research issues of mental wellness in a critical, safe, [and HyFlex] space.
